Hi -

Is there a preference to using either a pre-manufactured SS liner that comes with the 1/2 insulation sandwiched in between two layers of SS or going the traditional route of a single wall SS liner and adding the insulation sleeve/wrap and then the mesh sock?

It seems the pre-manufactured liner would be easier and faster to install if you have a straight shot, but a lot of angles could make it more challenging.

My worry is that if any moisture somehow leaks in between the chimney cap and gets into the insulation, it could soak down through the insulation and either mold/rot all spring/summer whereas a external liner would dry out.

Any experience or thoughts?

The pre-insul liner is more expensive and if ya got some curves it may be a challenge.

The "wrapped" system is good as long as you can get a little needed height ABOVE the top of the chimney to install it.
If you get the thicker smooth wall (which is actually double wall) flex liner and wrap it, you will find it doesn't bend as easily as the cheaper/thinner flex version does.

Moisture? I can't see where any water could get down into the insulation if the job is done properly.
