It's overkill. The 1800 only needs ember protection. A sheet of steel would suffice.
 
Even better. Any recommendation on ember protection? For some reason I see just few of these online, especially for corner...
Not sure what stores are up in NS near you. One option would be to cut a sheet of plywood, mount some cementboard and tile it. That would be under $100.

I bought enough 14ga sheet metal to make surround for 2 inserts and a 18x40 hearth extension on sheared to my measurements for $40
