Dusting off the woodstove soon!

My how the past 5 months flew by, and seeing temps dropping to the mid 40's here tonight got me thinking about the woodstove. Its almost time to give the chimney a sweep of birds nests, and do a once over on the castine. I used to go by the name backwoods, but it got too confusing with Mr Savage, so I went with a new name WELL SEASONED. Anyway, will be dusting the ol hog off soon waiting for a night around freezing

Sorry for taking part of your name. I've used the name on several forums and there is a bit of a story on how I came to use that name too.

Good thing to check the chimney before the first fire of the season. We got below 40 last night but still no fire in the stove.

I cleaned the chimney this past weekend. First time I ever did it myself. I was very surprised how difficult it is to push the brush through the liner! A few blisters later and its clean, just waiting for the snow

It is going to drop into the uppers 40's here tonight also. I can't wait to light the stove but it also means I have to start looking for my '15-'16 supply soon.

That bad eh? It'll be upper 40's tonight here, but I haven't broken out the duster yet. However, I did set the thermostat on the heat pump to scheduled heat mode.

Ha - a new unit of measure for how long it takes to get a fire going. I have heard of 15 min. or a couple of beers, now we have AARP letters.

Fired off my woodstove last night, wasnt worth warming up the boiler and storage. The town next to me, Berlin NH reported an overnight low in the mid thirties. My place got down to about 48. It will be warm the rest of the week.

Going to be at least mid October for my first fire. I won't burn steady until late November early December. Heat pump when needed until then.

Now, if only we could burn all those catalogs that come in the mail, I would never need to use firestarters at all.
Tested a few pieces with the MM, one came up 11%, another 16%. Whoo, Hoo!
A beautifully enameled insert is still a sad looking stove without a fire glowing inside. Every morning I get up (it was 49 this morn) and say, "Soon...very soon!" (broken image removed)

It's gotten downright cool the last two evenings, and the sky today reminds me very much of the same day 11 years ago.
