New install. The fit seems a little loose. The DVL inner sleeve has a no-friction fit to the Excel flue connector at the support box. Maybe 1/8" play. I read an older thread where Webby said to use 1" screws through the DVL and into the flue connector. Since there's no friction in the connection, I'm not sure I can get a tight fit. And I'm concerned about gasses escaping through loose connection and i cant find a better way of doing it.

Also, the DVL inner sleeve slips tightly into the stove collar but stops before the outer DVL pipe completely covers the stove collar. It's sitting up about 1/2". The DVL intructions says if the inner sleeve slip into the stove connector, no adapter is required. Will i be okay without an adapter?

TIA
David

Bump?

I don’t expect the outer shell of double wall to set down on the stove. Always seems to stop about 1/2” above. And I don’t screw double wall to the stove, it would crush the outer wall.

What stove is this?
The DVL sits up about 3/8" on our stove collar. Works great. Ours has 3 screws securing it per directions. I marked the DVL with the flue collar hole locations and predrilled clearance holes for the screws. No problem with crushing the pipe. Just stop screwing them in when they make contact. With the risk of puffbacks and earthquakes I always secure the pipe to the stove.

It an Englander Madison. Having different results at the stove collar with different DVL sections. The inner sleeve of the 6" section that i posted about earlier would slide into the stove. None of the other sections will fit, so I'll use an adapter.

In regards to the loose fit at the flue extension, I found a solution I'm confident with. I picked up a piece of 6" single wall pipe, cut a 3/4 band off of the uncrimped end, and slid it onto the flue extension as far as it will go to act as a shim. When the DVL goes over it, it's a snug fit that will hold itself in place so screws can be installed. The screws went through both layers of pipe, the shim, and the flue extension.

Hi there, I’m experiencing the same problem with the DVL having a loose fit and no friction connection at the flue extension from the ceiling box. I’m curious about your experience with the shim and the connection in general- have you experienced any smoke or gases leaking out at the connection? Are you still happy with the shim solution? Thanks so much.

4 year old posting. He may not answer.
There needs to be an adapter from the Duratech support box to the DVL stovepipe. Or is this a case of trying to mate different brand products?

Hey, thank you for the reply. I am using the Duratech 6DT-CS24-2 ceiling support box with 6” DVL, all the same brand and supposedly compatible with each other. From what I’m reading in the online product descriptions for my ceiling box and the installation manual, the flue extension is supposed to negate the need for an adapter and DVL is supposed to slip directly over the flue extension. The DVL does fit over the flue extension, but with about 1/8” of play as the original poster described. This feels suspicious to me and I’m not sure if I should just go with it or if there is in fact an adapter designed for this ceiling box. I’ll attach photos of the flue extension and installation manual.

Thanks for the pictures. I haven't seen this -2 version. This is the variety I've worked with. In this case it's best to follow the rules in the instructions.

There’s a really nice part for this from duravent. It bolts to the ceiling support box snout and extends down a few inches with what looks like a short section of double wall pipe.

Thanks! And this is compatible with the flue extension on the -2 version of the ceiling support box? Would you mind posting the product number? The photo is a little blurry.

Both of my ceiling support boxes have snouts that look like BG posted above. This fancy piece was an upgraded part from the original cheezy thing that I used originally back in 2007 or so when I first installed this duravent system.

The label got cooked off but it is readily available as a duravent DVL adapter part number 6DVL-ADT.

What a sucky snout. Looks like something made primarily for single wall.

I think this a new design option from DuraVent. It sure looks single-wall specific.

For my shop stove with single wall and the snout style ceiling box they sell a very effective snap in chunk of welded single wall that slides into the single wall pipe system below it as a telscopic section. They already have (had) an excellent solution.

Duravent has experienced some ownership changes and maybe this is a result.

Well yuck. I just went on their website and the new 2025 catalog shows all of their support boxes with this style connection. I am not sure if this is a cost saving approach, but it sucks.

FWIW, Duravent is owned by Egeria Investments, the parent of the M&G Group. The only change I have heard of is the Duravent/Security was separated out to focus on the North American market in 2017. Has something in the company changed since then?

Hi again, just wanted to write in with an update in case anyone else has the same concern. I screwed the double wall pipe into the support box snout as directed by the manufacturer. The screws made the connection firm, but looking up into the pipe, there were large gaps and it was not a snug fit. However, I have my woodstove up and running and have not experienced any smoke leaks or malfunctions, so it seems to be working just fine. Thanks again for all the help!
