There has been talk, Burn pot cleaning of the Englander 25- PDVC while it is running, I think it was Pegdot,

Anyway I tried this today to reduce the amount of ash and smoke that blows out of the stove if one cleans while stove is running.

Turned stove down to settings 1-3 wait 10 minutes. (LET AUGERS ADJUST)
Turned low air setting down to 1 and low fuel down to 1 wait a few more minutes. (FIRE DIES DOWN)

At this point the stove is hardly burning so I did the clean, scraped the auger tube end out and cleaned the glass and what a difference, hardly and ash or smoke came puffing out, and I could take my time cleaning instead of rushing to beat the ash and smoke.

Yes I know I can shut it down and clean it but this avoids waiting 1/2 hour for shut down and the start up procedure,

While this process is highly not recommend ... yea this is what I do too, ;-) but once a week I do shut down to do a thorough cleaning...

Open door slowly, use putty knife or spatula and scoop the clinker out of the burn pot and off to the side, close door.

10 seconds=done.

That's what I do to, but add 10 seconds to give the glass a quick wipe ;-)

Same here, usually right before I go to bed I just do a quick scoop

Ya but do you pellet heads turn the stove down?

Pelletizer,

I don't turn my stove down. Just open the door slowly and scoop out ash and clinker if present, and put it in the side ash pan, stir the pellets a bit. 10 seconds. If the door is open longer than that I find that a bit of smoke comes out of the stove. Close the door and wait for fire to build up again. Open up the door slowly again, wipe the glass with a dry crumpled up newspaper, another few seconds. Clean as a whistle and good to go. I do this at night and in the morning. Hope this helps.

Sydney lives! were ya been? Have you found a new Forum to hang out in.

Hi Pell,

I come on here every day to read posts. Since I have recently become a master of fire, I don't have many questions left. Hope all is well with you. We're in for a really cold snap. Keep warm.

Oh yes, all the time. Open it just before dumping them in and don't leave it open for any length of time. I have heard other stories of folks forgetting to close the hopper and all was well. Not recommended though.

I do exactly as Sydney does, except I turn the stove down to 1/1, just so the room blower doesn't blow the ash off the door onto the floor. Yes, I fill the hopper when the stove is running. I just pop it open, fill 'er up, and close the lid, takes 15 secinds, tops.

I've just started to do this with the new crappy pellets I am burning. They build air blocking clinkers several time per day so I take a breath, open the door, use the serving spoon I stole from my wife, and scoop out the wear plate. 4 seconds flat. But I have not tried turning down the stove. I'm not that smart apparently. I do get ash out on the floor but I recently added a free DustBuster the the storage area behind the stove to suck those up.

My daily cleaning is: hit the OFF button, wait for the flame to go out (5+ minutes), open the door, scoop the burn plate with serving spoon, lift and dump the burn plate (glove), scoop under burn plate with table spoon (sorry honey), scrape auger tube with cheap nail puller tool (perfect angle and edge), wipe glass with one wet paper towel, replace burn plate, throw a few pellets in the back right corner, close door and hit ON button. Less than 5 minutes to clean. Air blower never goes off.

Once per week I let it shut all the way down and vacuum it out, behind baffle plate and especially suck out the side holes under the burn plate. I love the way this stove keeps on running. However, if I ever win the lottery I will buy one of those stove that can run for weeks with out cleaning. Or maybe keep the stove I have and hire someone to clean it.

sydney... - I was doing the same as you, but then I found out if I clean / wipe down the glass first, I only have to open the door once.
