Are upon us. what a change from last week. nearly 90 and humid last week, high 60's no humidity this week! Calling for the upper 30's at night. Its only a matter of time!

We'll get mid 40's at night this week. I try and hold off til the furnace kicks itself on, or the dogs start shivering too much.

Yep, they're talking about a light frost Thurs morning in the central parts of Maine. Northern parts may have already had one.
I tend to use the "furnace kick on" indicator of when to start lighting fires as well. Still need to clean my chimney....everything else is ready though.

I am with you. I need to brush mine out and brush the cap, also move all of my wood into my attached screen patio (4cord). then I am ready!
Yeah, So what? it is the normal path of the seasons for this time of the year....Why waste space talking about it? It sure isn't significant...
Yep, probably go to HD this weekend and get a brush and some fiberglass rods and get it taken care of. I keep my wood outside near the house, but I suppose I could go ahead and top off the rack I keep in the basement. Holds about a weeks worth of 24/7 burning.
Yup - looks like a low-low of 45 for this week. It'll be getting there before you know it.
I figure, the thermostats for the electric heat get switched on around Oct 1 and then the wood stove is on schedule for Nov 1. All this is weather dependent of course...
BTW - When the days are warmer than 5 or the nights get colder than 80, I keep the fridge full of good beer. Looks like I have to keep it stocked this week too!

I heard my oil boiler kick on last night twice for about 5 minutes each time. The only thermostat that is on right now is in my daughter's room. So it must have dropped below 72 in there last night.
Since the boiler only came on for 10 minutes total it's cheaper to burn oil right now. I'm hoping I can wait until mid to late October before I turn the PB105 on permanently.

After the first hard frost is really the best time of the year for us. No mosquitoes 
It's a perfect time to enjoy a hike in the woods, scout out downed trees for firewood and appreciate why we live in the boonies. Also time to check the snow plow and snowblower for the inevitable.

Got a heavy frost last night where I live. Temp said 30.2 at 7:05 AM, needed to turn on the propain furnace to get the chill out of the house. Since yesterday it was cloudy most of the day I didn't get the thermal I needed so the house got to 64.
Will most likely be lighting the stove tonight with one of those small fires.

FROST is my friend - though I have not seen her in too long. These skeeters are killing me at 6:30-7:00 and on while trying to continue to get stuff done. I have 2 more cords to move and hate swatting the skeeters with a log.

Bug spray does the trick. Spray it on and the skeeters stay away. I have to do it every night I'm in the backyard. I'm convinced that one of my neighbors is breeding mosquito's!
The beginning of another wonderful fall and then winter season to come. It is one of the many reasons we like living in the north. It beats the south in all ways.
