I am upgrading my woodstove to a vermont castings dutchwest 2462, it is annual 8" exhaust, however the fireback is preventing the upgrade, i have read that a fireback in not needed for wood stove use, is this true? I am more than willing to remove it and my chimney will accept 8" without a problem, I don't want to damage my house or burn it down.

What fireback? Is this going into a fireplace? Pictures are welcome.

A fire back is a metal plate placed on.the back wall of a fireplace. How would it effect a liner

That's why I'd like to see the fireback. It sounds quite massive to block the liner.
