Moved into a new house this year- the damper in my fireplace opens/closes properly but is missing the handle to open and close it. It's wedged open with a brick for wood burning. I haven't really spent a lot of time looking at it so I don't know if it's fixable.

So my questions are:
-can I get parts if it is fixable?
-How do I find the manufacturer, will it be on the damper plate?
-Is it hard to replace? I'm pretty handy but haven't done it before
-estimated cost of hiring someone to replace it?

Thanks guys!!

We would need allot more info and some pics to have any idea of what needs done

Your best bet would to just install a lock-top cap. It opens and closes with a cable that mounts in the Fireplace. You might get lucky and find a handle that fits your damper plate though.
