well...lol as some people on this forum may know i was having a little trouble with my fireview getting up past 450-500 degrees and that was on a packed full load. i called woodstock and they told me that the previous owners never replaced the cat with them in 12 years!! so needless to say i ordered a cat. today has been pretty warm so i let the fire go out it took 12 hours to burn the dang coals out lol. so i get my wrench and socket out open the lid and something looks off. the cat housing is sitting kind of crooked. i went over grabbed the instrustions and the cat is in there backwards and not seated. so i believe thats probably were alot of my trouble was with the stove lol. the new stainless cat is installed properly and im getting ready to fire her up and see what happens with my new cat. thanks for everyones help ive recieved here and happy thanksgiving

i messed around with the cat when i bought the stove (used) and must have put it in wrong not paying attention. relit the stove engaged the cat and turned red immediately and stayed red. the stove top is just cooking lol big difference i only put 3 splits instead of 6 and the stove is burning noticeably hotter. thanks for all the help guys

your about to gain a completely new respect for that stove. wow, its amazing how some people think! ha. speaking of stoves cooling down, ive been firing my progress hybrid every 24 hrs here in the mountains of wv, with nights in the 20's. lighting a fire on coals after 24hrs is really a good thing, and the stone side and face plates stay so nice and warm . enjoy!!

Glad the new Fireview is working as it should now. What about your gaskets? A 12 year old stove will probably need some replacements.

Always pays to fully check out used equipment. The previous owners of my stove had put the catalytic access panel in upside down. There is a lip on it that should make it obvious, but put in wrong like that it crushed and completely blocked the secondary air to the cat. The stove probably ran like crap. But as best I can tell they were also the type that bought wood every year... About twice as much as I burn per the neighbor.... Which was probably green... And may not have known the difference.

When I put in the stainless cat and scoop, that thing would light off below 200 until it was "broke in." I've got my surface thermo in the center-back of the stove top, and with my new IR thermo, that area reads about 50* higher than the recommended location (center-middle, over the cat heat shield) so it's still lighting off very readily.

Your older 201 model is different, more like the Classic. The Fireview 205 has the cat front center along with a different baffle system.
