So the home I recently acquired has a really nice-looking fireplace (from the look of it it's seem to be coal 22W x 24H x 14D).
It has some sort of mechanic that I have figured parts of it but not all yet.
The two coals holders(?) can be move around using a handle. Is this for turn the coal around? See this video: https://share.icloud.com/photos/0a2Wr-h0Z1s6spYJVzj7RMPnw
You can see there is a level handle beneath that connects to the coals holders(?) and probably lock them in place. I can't figure out what else it is for. Because when it is not locked to that level, the coals holders(?) can turn around almost freely (like dumping dirt down below). See this vid: https://share.icloud.com/photos/055OiLHuQER2CqKoaVfjBpWRg
If the handle beneath is just to lock the coals holders(?), and doesn't turn it by some yet unknown mechanism, I can't help but think just have 2 tongues each side would have been perfectly firm and not need of any locking mechanism? So is there any more to it, something that in the level handle beneath that can, when push or pull, turn the coals holders(?) around? With this design, I think it's likely possible, just can't figure out how yet. Hope experts here can enlighten me.
General question about usage:
1. This is mainly burn coal, but can I occasionally throw in some big wood there for mood? I was told, coal doesn't leave creosote, but wood does. However, if you burn wood on top of coal, the temp would be high so no creosote will come out? I only use a few blocks a year for mood setting purpose, and would use only dry or even the suppose creosote cleaning wood.
2. If I only use that for supplemental heating and recreational purpose, do I need to install a chimney liner? This is the current chimney video: https://share.icloud.com/photos/08dLnCAtGbNplbCU8RyAoGJtg
Thanks
