I worked up some white oak today that's been in the log for either 7 or 8 years, piled up outside. Split several 24" rounds & stopped to load the trailer. And there it was, the brightest pink heartwood I've ever seen. The veneer boys would have creamed themselves! Just for giggles, I saved out a big split and called my timber buddy & told him to stop by tomorrow. He'll be after every white oak within a mile of here.

We split some red oak a couple of months ago that was just beautiful wood. Such a deep, rich color. I can only imagine the floors it would have made! It split like a dream, too. Just touch it with the hydraulic and it would almost pop apart into the neatest, cleanest splits. Wish I had 3 or 4 cord of it, but it was not to be. :-(

Problem is the market is way, way down right now. Wait a few years and it will come back.

Pictures?
