Getting a used stove shipped is not always the easiest thing to do. The shipping companies are very finicky about the requirements with residential pick-up as I've learned first hand. They don't communicate well and quickly the shipping charges grow astronomically. If I did that in my business, I would not have a business very long. Bait and switch.

Still cheaper than buying new, but the shipping can cost almost as much as an Englander NC-30.

Try Fed Ex. I have many friends who do residential shipping of heavy machinery, and they've found Fed Ex to be much cheaper than any other freight carrier.

I'm about to try and sell my heritage after 5 years and am curious, how does one ship a stone stove. How is the used market? If you had to get it shipped, how did you find it?

Do you have forks for that tractor, Highbeam? I would think loading and unloading to be the biggest issues. You pay extra for liftgate service, and then you will likely have to figure out how to get the stove to the gate. That truck probably isn't going to back up to the front porch.

Probably better yet would be to crate it up for shipping and get it to a terminal. When I had slate shipped, I saved a bundle going to pick it up.

No forks at this time. We moved it while it was still on the pallet with a stout hand truck. I was hoping somebody would come and pick it up after paying me for it.

Firecracker just purchased an incredibly well cared for Heritage. In the process of the purchase it nearly involved me having to kill two very lazy truck drivers.

That shipping was steep with 2 different carriers...about $685. BrowningBar is a hard worker, and I'm looking forward to the first fire once it arrives and is hooked up.

Disclaimer: I have very limited firsthand knowledge of the following.....
I think "truck" shipping is lots less than standard carriers for large heavy items. Items must be on a pallet, delivered to an address that can unload (forks) or a shipping terminal. I think every large town has a terminal. There are that I know of within 40 miles of me. The terminal will load/offload the item for you.

Good man Browning... Good man.

Congrats on your new purchase Firecracker.. Hope it lasts for years..

Shipping to residential addresses can be a pain for the big companies. This can easily be solved by shipping to a local business and then picking up from there. We did that and although the business owner wanted nothing (we are regular customers) we did give a nice tip. It worked out really great.

Picked up from PA residence lift gate by company, taken to Old Dominion terminal in NJ, shipped to midwest, lift gate delivery to business. $685. overpriced shipment

Couldn't you have just put it in a pickup and driven to NJ for less money and gotten a road trip out of the deal? Aren't all those states over there the size of Rhode Island?

Is it really overpriced??? Maybe...... Are you getting a stove from a good standing member? Absolutely.

You know its been taken care of and all service needed is done..

Your getting a Great stove that will fit your needs and style.......

Browning is getting his 30-NC and is Super Stoked!! Win - Win in my Opinion.

Maybe I didn't explain properly. The stove is great, BrowningBar is great, the bait and switch by the shipping company was not great. The original freight charge quoted was a few hundred less.

He was referring to the shipping being over-priced. He was quoted one price and it ended up being a good deal more due to no fault of his own.

In fact, if I hadn't loaded the truck myself, the stove would still be sitting in my driveway. The last 36 hours was really an astonishing display of laziness and incompetence on the part of those responsible for providing a shipping service.
