So we have had some crazy storms before but never had any issues with leaks. A few days ago we had a really crazy storm. Raining sideways. I hear dripping and look and see that water is leaking from the wood box above our wood stove. No water was coming down the pipe. No water in the stove. If you see the pictures I attached and the wood box, water was coming from the left side a few inches forward from the back of the box. The pipe comes up from the wood stove into the box and then somewhere in there there is an elbow. I am going to assume the water was somehow coming in and then dripping off that elbow but I can't be positive. That is the only place where water was seen. Our master bedroom is behind the wood stove and there was no water in there. There is no attic access so we can't check anything there.
My husband will be getting up on the roof at some point after this crazy heat subsides to check things out. Here's what we plan to check: storm collar, storm collar caulking, flashing, shingles up from the chimney. Is there anything else we need to check? Also if it is missing caulking on the storm collar what is the name of the product we need. I assume something high heat. If it is caulking around the flashing what is the product we need? Any other products you think we need? My husband wants to just get up there once so I want to make sure he has all the correct products when he goes up there even if we don't need them. If we can't figure out the issue or it is something beyond our skills is it a roofer we call or a chimney guy?
I only have one not so great picture of the chimney outside. Thanks for any help you can offer.
