Hamer's Hot Ones vs NEWPs

I just talked with Hawthorne's Agway in Enfield - where I live. Apparently they are in the Agway bag, but are Hamer's Hot Ones. Right now the price is $5.99 a bag (~$300/ton), however over the summer if ordering by the ton, then the price per bag will likely drop (uncertain how much.) This seems like a decent enough deal based on the pricing for 2015 that I'm seeing - are the pellets good quality?

There is also a local hardwood outlet that has NEWPs for $293/ton currently, may go up a bit depending. Would these pellets be better than the HHO's?

Can't speak for Hamer hot ones because I never tried them. What I can tell you is I bought a ton of green supreme to start off my first season with a pellet stove, and they are a newp product. They were absolutely terrible and they burn dirty and ashey. Unless they were giving them away or if it was the only option left would I consider burning them again. Hope that helps

I burned Hamer's this winter. They burn hot as heck and didn't make a bunch of ash, but the ash was clumpy. I paid $292/ton. I liked them but I'm going with something cheaper for next year.

Been burning Hamers for the last 2 years, love them, 229/ton plus 60 for delivery, got 4 ton last year still have 3 left between the last 2 years. will be ordering 3 ton next month some time. Not sure on the price as of yet.

Okay, so that makes me think no thanks on the NEWP product. Based on a few others here it sounds like the Hamer's are at least worth checking into.

I would stay away from NEWP. They are talked up to quite a high price - yet really are a low quality pellet. I have not touched them in 2 years now and the last batch I saw at the stove shop were terrible with moisture.

For that minimal price difference, Hamer's would be the choice. I live near the NEWP's plant and they have no shortage of pellets but the new owners do have an investment to pay for. Some are complaining about a drop in quality since the ownership change but this could just be a variance between years.

Historically, HHO's are a very hot burning pellet. NEWP's are about a medium hot, medium ash pellet, good but not great. If the price is near each other, HHO's is an easy choice.

Hamers baby. Burned both Hamers and NEWP leap-frogging bags. Hamers I can lower stove to 1-2 NEWP run 3-3 or 4-4. Green Supremes are literally the only pellet to leave clinkers. HHO run 329/ton at a few places around me. I will be buying tonnage in near future...

NEWP is New England Wood Pellets (Made in NH/NY)
NEP - Northeast Pellets (Made in Maine)

NEP's are okay for their price point. Only $220 per ton.
NEWP are $289 per ton from the same dealer - but they are crap for the price.

Not sure about that but if they gave me a ton of them I'd use them for speedy dry and cat litter....
