Harman XXV temperature / room temp question...

So we installed a free standing XXV about a month or two ago. I have ran it several times on cold days to get the chill out and heat up the house. I have the temp setting to 90 degrees (the max) and the feed set to number 2. It is in the living room and that the foyer, dining room and kitchen are ALL cathedral ceilings (1350 sq ft upstairs). The max that room gets to is 75 degrees and the bedrooms (with a small hallway fan) get to about 70 degrees. Keep in mind it has been 40-45 degrees the past couple days.

Am I doing something wrong? Should I put the feed up to 3? The stove is set on auto and on high....

Hi Jay and welcome to the Club of Harman owners. Click on the link in my signature and read it about 2 or 3 times. It will answer all of your questions. But 2 is way too low for a feed rate. set it at 4 and leave it alone.

We have a Harman XXV and you are correct. Leave the feed setting at 4. Temp probe is hanging behind the stove. I also leave the blower setting in the middle, room setting at 70 degrees. Very nice and cozy.

In my recent search for a stove, every Harman dealer I visited said to leave the feed at "4". It kind of makes sense that your not getting higher temperatures if there aren't enough pellets in the burn pot. In temperature mode, I am told that the stove will adjust the feed rate automatically once you set the desired temp you want and that was another reason dealers told me to just leave it alone at the "4" setting.

mine is set between 3 and 4 never have had to move it every fall I have to reread just what was posted by Harman Lover Suxs getting old !I have a three bedroom log home and its cold here in central Maine never ever have I had t o run it on full tilt !

Just listen to what the experienced Harman guys are telling you here. I am not one. I am a newbie and was over thinking it myself. Throw the feed rate at 4 and walk away is what I did and it has worked out well. I was going around in circles and it was ALL due to the feed rate. I was trying to turn it down thinking it would save pellets. I now know that I was using just as many if not more and my temps were not consistent. The stove was not operating efficiently either.

ANYONE PLEASE CORRECT ME IF ANYTHING I'VE STATED IS NOT RIGHT: I'm still learning but would like to help

My reasoning and thinking was that I would use less pellets at a lower feed rate. Logically makes sense, Right? Not really true. I also became mind numb. Then I came to the realization that when in room mode (auto) with the feed rate set at 4 does not mean it is always feeding at the feed rate of 4 necessarily. Even if it does it's more efficient and I have used less pellets that way. I kept track of how much I used every time I ran the stove. The stove set like this adjusts to what it needs rate wise, but no more than 4 I'm guessing.

I didn't want to step in on this one since it is out of my league still. However, I did because I just went thru this exact dilemma. They don't call these bad boys plug and plays for nothing.

There are a lot of stoves on the market that do not have electronics . Think of them like a 1966 Chevrolet. You were able to adjust the carburetor on them to get the optimum performance. And there is the Harman line of stoves that do come with electronics.Think of them like a newer Honda with fuel injection and oxygen sensors in the exhaust pipe.Like the ESP probe in the Harman. As Ron Popile used to say about his chicken fryer just Set It and forget It. 4 Is good for the feed rate

Also use to set the points on a distributor with the lid cover on a book of matches.

and that would give you the perfect 30 degrees of dwell you were looking for....I had a 67 Goat 400 big block.....those were the days.

I thought just like you did until I read the Harman thread on this forum. My inlaws have a cheaper HD stove that they can adjust the blower speed and the feed speed to control the output of heat. I guess you live and learn at least it only took me a couple weeks to start figuring it out. I am still learning about the stove and temnp controls.

I am a little confused on the ESP mode vs. the room temp mode even after ive read the thread a couple times.

i put the feed up to 3, wow what a difference !!

I think in the fall when needed it will stay at a 3 and in the dead of winter a 4. We shall see though

My Harman P61A is set at feed rate 3 from past winter...
someday I may actually put it on #4 and see if there any difference in pellet consumption..

I have not yet been through winter yet since this is my 1st pellet stove so we shall see.
