Sorry to have to ask, but apparently my search skills are very poor. Back a number of weeks ago there was a hearth thread that I thought I had bookmarked...but apparently those skills follow closely on my search skills.

Anyway, someone posted a link on this hearth thread about the various materials and their R-values. Should the poster of this information be so kind as to repost I'd sure appreciate it. I'm fixin' to have a discussion with the building inspector and this guy has been difficult so I want to have all my ducks in a row prior to invading the building dept.

Roxul came also out with several new board products: http://www.roxul.com/products/commercial/products Not sure how well those work in a hearth but may be easier to find than Micore. You could ask which one is best for load-bearing applications.
