Hi,

I wonder if anyone can help.. my parents recently put in a wood stove with fireboard behind and to the side and they have acidently used oil based primer on the boards and not water. This will be painted over with water based emulsion but will the primer let off a smell at temperature or bubble?

1. is this going to be a problem ?
2. should the boards be replaced?
3. is ther a fix?

any help is appreicated as my parents are worried about it

I wouldn't worry about it; I've never heard of this being an issue. Oil based finishes can stink for a little while but the smell will dissipate.

Probably not if all clearances are observed. The wall should not heat up that much.

my walls heats up alot and the clearances are adheard to.
Once the paint/primer is fully cured it should not smell at all even if it gets warm. The worst case would be if the wall gets very hot and the finish is not rated for high temperature then it could fail and bubble off the surface. But any high temp paint you use would be oil based anyway so just the fact that it's oil based is not a cause for concern.
