How much heat can you reasonably expect from 1+ CF of wood. Burn times are calculated with a full load of wood.

Not much - and that's from the owner of a 1.4 CF stove :cheese:

My stove is like a baby's diaper - loaded every two hours! :p

y. Maybe I'll get one of those energy audits done before next season and see if I can seal the house up a little better.

Good idea.
You probably know where some improvements are needed already (cold basement, cold drafty areas)
Even if you do energy savings yourself before an audit (insulation, windows, doors, appliances etc) it may be a federal tax deduction,
so save all the receipts.
Check with a tax guru.
My 2 Audits in 2010 (before & after improvements) were fully refunded by the state.
Money spent on improvements, up to $1500, was refunded on Fed taxes in 2010.
There may be other State & Federal programs out there, the tax folks are a good source for information.
