So, i have an old ugly fence in the back yard i had been trying to grow vines on to cover it up.
My neighbor said to try hops, i thought sure i will give it a try.
Bought 3 hops plants and it took off. The first year i let the hops buds die on the vine as i had no use for them. A friend of mine brews his own beer, not your typical homebrew, this guy is good.
He wanted them so i picked a full paper grocery bag full.
About a month later he delivered the FUNK! Outstanding beer, something more fun about drinking a beer with your name on it. The photo on the label is the actual fence with a single hop vine.

I am supposed to get some hop plants this weekend. I am going to try brewing my own beer soon, I got a kit, haven't used it yet.

Give em something to climb on, wire, trellis or something. Full sun is the key!

not sure what strain they are, the local nursery had them in small pots for 3-4 bucks

Hop rhizomes are perennial but be careful how/where you first plant. They are an aggressive addition to the landscape.

Careful around dogs. Some are allergic (genetic defect) and it will case seizures. They're not attracted to raw hops (I've heard) but the trub still has a lot of sugar so don't compost where they can get to it.

Good point, i have heard this too. Ours is in the back of the garden and has a small fence around it.
