how much wood did you burn this winter?

I haven't started burning yet, next winter will be my first, but I talked to my dad today who's been burning for as long as i can remember. I asked him how much wood he burned, he told me about 3 cords.

We live in central IL and he heats a 1500 sq/ft house, with full basement ,with a wood stove in the basement and burns mainly hardwoods.

I'm wondering how everyone else did.

I burned 2 3/4 cords this year (my first), heating approx 1700 sq ft exclusively w/wood from a finished basement. The only time the NG furnace ran was when we left town for the holidays. We had a fairly mild winter here in cheese head land though.

Canadian Rockies, 2600 sq ft about 3 cords of softwoods. Larch, lodgepole, doug fir, paper birch, a bit of cedar. Weve had the mildest winter in the 17 years Ive been here so wood left over from this winter. Still burning, burning right now, also dropped three trees today and have them in the back yard all bucked up waiting for the splitter!

A relatively bitter winter here in north Alabama, but utes guys up north would probably laugh it off. Burned one and a half cord of pin oak and pecan in a 1400 sq ft space with high ceilings.

2000ish sf raised ranch, 4+ cord and maybe 75 gal heating oil. Roughly burned the same as last year, burning mid October until around Easter 24/7. The stove is quiet now, and the splitting and stacking has begun

Nearly 2 cord, 2400 sq ft, typically burn a mix of poplar, pine, white, and red oak. We let the heat pump pick up some slack during the day in shoulder season.

I guess I thought everyone was burning alot more than this. For some reason I was thinking i have read that people were burning 10-12 cords a year.

The 10-12 cord may be guys/gals with out side burners. We are still burning a little in mourn and one at night if needed. Wife likes to stay warm but we are at about 5 cord so far at most. We just put in a new stove so that may go down next year. East central Illinois.

We burn around the clock... makes a big difference in how much we use during the winter.

1400 sf rancher here, we typically go through 3 cord of oak and soft maple mix. This past winter was an anomaly; bitter cold that just wouldn't let up for weeks at a stretch. We passed the 3 cord mark in early February, ran through a half cord of red maple we had in reserve and still had April to go.

We have over 10 cord out there stacked. But all that's seasoned enough to burn halfway decent is a cord or so of sweetgum. Darn if we didn't run through about half of that. We were hoping we wouldn't have to touch it this year.

About three cords here in central PA. I don't burn 24/7 because I have backup heat, and my stove doesn't heat the whole house because the stove is in the basement. I keep it burning as much as I can, which is almost full time in cold weather.

3 Cords here burning almost 24/7. Mostly red oak, some sweetgum. 1800 square feet. House stayed around 70 consistently
