How to loosen cat heat shield bolts?

Hey All,
This is my second season with a Buck 91. Last year I replaced the cat and ended up breaking off the bolts for the heat shield that attach it to the catalyst housing. It was a pain to find someone to drill them out and re tap the threads. I replaced the bolts with stainless bolts that are soft but hopefully won't rust lock in place. Any tricks on freeing them up? I want to check and clean my cat, but don't want to be taking everything apart again to fix it.

Put you a couple drops of 3N1 oil on the bolts and let it set for a few mins and it should break loose. My Buck 91 doesn't have bolts in the heat shield. It has 4 studs with holes in each one that a washer and pin fits on for easy to remove. My sons Buck 80 has the bolts like your 91 and the oil did the trick.

Thanks, I didn't realize they had a easy off sheild. What year is yours? I'd like to switch mine to the same parts.

If the cat housing is the same size, you may be able to do that. You have the numbers off the stove IIRC...call Buck and they'll tell you weather it's possible to switch.

Late in the year of 2014. Try the oil. It should work. When you put it back on just put a couple of turns on each bolt. Should hold it.
