Hudson River West Point wood pellet stove Cleaning Rod Sticky?

Well, here is what I found.
The heat exchanger tubes have some buildup of ash. So I am wire brushing the tubes.
Also the cleaning rod itself is pitted and has some rust. So I took the wire brush on the drill to it.

As you can see it has 2 rakes on the rod. One rake is forward and one is aft!
Would the rusty cleaning rod make it stick?

Thanks, I am beginning to really like this stove! ! ! Have to clean the blowers and replace their gaskets next
