How short would you have to be before you said anything to the deliverer? I waited till I got it all bucked, split & stacked & I'm about 1.333 ricks short on a "2 cord" delivery of ~4' logs..

Call rick and tell him to help. What do these banana cords represent as a % short? Did the seller guarantee cordage split and stacked? Or did he sell you a volume of logs?

There is no way that a seller can nail it every time. Some people stack tighter than others. Some split smaller. It's a guess at best.

A rick is a face cord iirc.

The first guy I bought firewood from called himself "Quality Firewood" (should've been a red flag in hindsight) and when I ordered 2 cords of "seasoned" wood he delivered just over 1 cord. I called him up and he got all defensive saying "oh you know sometimes people have different ways of measuring a cord" and a bunch of other bs which I told him was not true. He never admitted he was wrong but that afternoon I got home and there was another cord of wood dumped in my driveway.

I'm guessing he thought being a young guy I wouldn't know any better and was caught completely off guard when I called him on it.

2 face cords is a lot. Honestly I’d call if I was a half face cord or more. If I paid a premium I’d probably call if I was short at all.

How could someone be 1.33 cords short on a 2 cord delivery? That is most of the order. This seller must be new to firewood or else doesn't understand what a cord of logs is. Obviously you have to try to figure out what happened. Maybe he thinks a face cord is a cord. Or he meant he had 2 face cords of logs for sale.

No, 1.33 face cords (i.e. less than half a cord)

I wouldn’t get wood from him again after two strikes. I was just visiting a friend and he had 2 racks in front of his house filled with wood. A total of 2 face cord. He pointed to them and said “I got 2 cord of wood delivered”. I have to ask him what he paid for a “cord” of wood. If he got ripped off, it will be dealt with.

A lot of people around here call a face cord a cord with no apparent care of what it actually is. They just say “cord” and when you call them out on it they get defensive and say it is “easier to use that amount than a full cord”… whatever that means.

Buying wood can be hit or miss. It seems like a lot of people are more than willing to take advantage of others and rake them over the coals just to make a buck. I have sold a little wood in the past when I have enough, and I always make sure they get what they pay for. Happy customers are return customers, and they sometimes throw in a very generous tip.

Many sellers around here call wood seasoned if it has been sitting in log form for any amount of time. It is rarely dry.

He is delivering you a face cord short, and what logs he is delivering some are cedar. I would just move on and forget about it. Just do your business else where. Make note to ask the next supplier: 1) what are the species of trees you are bringing? (maybe say, "I am looking for hardwoods like oak, ash, locust, etc... not poplar, balsa, pine, willow, cedar, etc... ", and 2) how do you measure your cords in log form - because I got shorted by another guy? (he will probably give you more than you ordered to make you a permanent customer). With your current supplier, it is just a face cord - I would just move on.

I once ordered a face cord and when I stacked it there was almost 1/3 missing so I called the guy and he brought the rest. I don't think you should let people get away with a substantial short because they'll just keep doing it to others.

I do my business with the person selling me the product, I don't think I need others to tell me what to do. If you got cheated tell them or just don't do business with them again.
