Loaded up the boiler this morning from a dead warm start. Lit it, closed everything up, flipped the switches and walked away. Went back downstairs 3 or so hours later and the stove pipe was at 100. WTH???

It works so much better when your close the smoke box to the gasification chamber. That was one way to get rid of the goo. :oops:

At least I got a 20 degree rise to 140.
 
Don't beat yourself up, I suspect a poll among the hearth.com faithful would show a high percentage of us have performed a bone head act or two with our burners. just saying.... (OK i'm guilty) Bruce
 
I will second that D'OH!. Luckily it tests my safety systems.
 
Yea i have left my bypass open a few times in 13 years.
As i walk through the door my storage temp gauges are right there,my heart drops when they haven't moved to where they are supposed to be.
Usually a Homer moment D'OU !
