Burning Hunk

Had my insert for about a week now, it's a fireplaceX large flush arch by Travis industries. The blower dial used to adjust from off to low to high with a lot of variability in between , sort of "infinite" control. Now, when turning it on it is either "high" or off.
I let it cool for about 3 hours, just ashes, and have tried unplugging the insert as well - no luck it's stuck on either off or high. Any easy way to fix this or should I call my dealer (who installed it).

Definitely sounds like a defective speed control fix. I would alert the dealer so that he gets the part. It "should" be an easy replacement fix, depending on where it is located and access. But you don't want to void the warranty if a dealer fix is required.

Definately call the dealer. Could need a new one , but there use to be a potentiometer on the side(small screw) not sure if they are still there. We use to adjust them all the time but for some reason it has not came up.

Did you burn it hot without the fan on? I did day one and melted my fan control. Part was $17 and a easy fix. Keep my fan on low now.

We have a blower from Travis also.....in the last 7 years or so, we've gone thru 4 switches. I wrote to Travis Industries, and they suggest I use a Surge Protector when plugging in the blower....yeah, right. Our switch is $24.95 at the local woodstove dealer, and they replaced the first one free...paid after that. Ours would simply die, and I made up a jumper to by pass the switch....figure full speed better than none. The current switch is on the way out (have to fiddle with it sometimes), when it goes, I'll be looking for a plug with an inline Rheostat to wire in and mount it near the fireplace or leave it on the Hearth.

Thanks for all the replies. Since its a week old I'll definitely be going to the dealer. Sounds like it may be an issue in the future. I usually leave the fan on at all times burning, in low or medium-low.

Dealer said its the "rheostat" and he's ordering a new part. Thanks guys
