Hey guys, just joined. I am a new homeowner and am lokoing to get a woodstove insert. I recently found that i have an awkwardly shaped fireplace. I can best describe it as a trapezoid. The front opening is 27 3/4 inches wide, however the sides going back slant inward, and the back width is only 14 1/2 inches. The house is a nearly 1900 sq ft colonial so i would like to avoid a small woodstove if possible. I uploaded a rough diagram of the fireplace from above. Are there any insert that slant too accomodate my fireplace. Would something like a pellet insert take up less space? Idealy i would like the insert to stick out of the wall as little as possible.

Thanks! Dave

Most fireplaces are shaped like that, but yours is smaller in both the front width and the rear width.

Do you have a lot of wood on the walls around it?
What is the height of the front?

Chances are that an insert which extends out somewhat is going to be part of your answer.

I take back my last post, I think I looked at it at the wrong angle.

What's the height of the opening?

I think, for max heat, you should pick either....

1. A hearth stove - something which can maybe go part way back in, but uses a rear vent. This will allows for larger log lengths and more heat into the room.
Lots of examples, but for instance:

2. An insert which is set up and loads in a North-South fashion (front to back) - these usually stick out onto the hearth also.

I'll let others fill in which units fit this designation....
