Installer put the remote receiver here??

Just had a Regency P33CE-10 fireplace installed by the dealer in our vaca home. He sent some pics today and he mounted an electrical box just to the right of the fireplace for the remote receiver. I’m not crazy about the location but he said he couldn’t mount it on the rt wall because of window framing and the wire is too short to mount on the wall to the left. Going to have stone installed soon but there’s gotta be a better place to put this. Can I get an extension for this wire so it can be mounted on the wall to the left?

He told the wife it should be exposed, not behind metal, but yeah I know my parent’s receiver on their fireplace is in behind the bottom louvers

It looks rotten right now, but when the tile is installed it will look just like any other electrical outlet, except presumably with a plastic cover. Is that really going to be a problem?

I agree with Millbilly that locating it behind the fireplace grill is what you'd usually expect, but think carefully about whether this is really going to be an issue. In this location it would be more accessable to change batteries, replace or otherwise service it.

That's probably better than digging around under the fireplace where things are crowded.

It seems to me if the receiver is to be exposed the best place for it would be on the wall next to the fireplace but he claims the wiring is too short to reach the left wall. It’s not a huge fireplace, corner install and about 4-1/2’ across the front. You would think the wiring could be lengthened to reach this area? Is this not a solution? I can’t believe the people who designed the fireplace expect the receiver to be plopped in the stone/tile area causing a big eyesore. I looked at a lot of pics of gas fireplace installs and never once saw this. I’m just trying to make sure the dealer/installer isn’t feeding us some bs and just took the easy road. We’re 350 mi away too so I can’t see things for myself, only the pics that he sends.

You will have to look at the owner's manual for the remote. It will dictate the MAXIMUM length (& Gauge) of wire that can be used.

I'll measure the length of that wire harness when I get a chance. Again if it were mine, I'd place it by the valve. It's easy to get to on that unit. I have not experienced receive issues with them installed that way. I would not want it where he has it. Might get to hot there too.

I called Regency this morning and talked to a tech support guy, very helpful. He said the wire harness is around 10’ long so no problem getting it on either side of the fireplace. Passed the info on to the dealer later and now he’s going to move it. Just as I thought, he choose the path of least resistance. I think this will be a better placement vs. concealing it by the valve (I think I read online it’s not even an option on this model?), easier to get to to change the batteries when they go. I’m good with that. Thanks everyone for your thoughts, I’ll share pics when it’s done.

It would be nice if they had an extension going to the receiver that simply added on additional length using the existing plugs, but I don't see any such thing.

If you have ten feet of wire though, it's hard to believe you can't find a satisfactory place to put the receiver.

He moved it to the wall, he had plenty of wire. I guess he got a little lazy at the end of the install. Thanks for the link
