Is it normal to smell a slight wood burning smell?

Hi,

I've checked everything and nothing seems to be leaking. I have smoke detectors and CO detector also. Not a strong smell just like a smell when you walk into someone's home that burns a wood stove.

Kinda sounds like your answering your own question.
Smells are hard to judge over the net.

Light smoke smell for a few minutes upon startup is normal for many.
If you are still smelling smoke after that, you have a leak somewhere.

I have a newly Installed harman accentra Insert. I have the same mild Smoke Smell. My Dealer has assured me, as long as the Cimney Pipe is sealed properly , that this smell is normal for a week or so from new, while the stove is curing. There word not mine.

Yes. I have the same thing; you notice a slight smoke smell for awhile as things get rolling, then it fades away. I did the same thing-checked for leaks, looked for smoke and found nothing. Then I said to myself "it IS a stove after all" so we will notice it!

I guess it really depends on what you had for dinner. Yes, I get a faint wood smell from mine. However, I only smell it if I am outside near the vent pipe or if I open the door to clean the burn pot. It isn't detectable while burning.

Clarifying the smell at the startup as opposed to a continuing smell .Most poeple I've spoken to who have had the stoves for a while tell me other than a little at start up you should get nothing after. My Stove is brand new, and the dealer is telling me that the smell will last a week or two. (It continues as long as the stove is on). I have a neighbor who tells me his did the same thing on his Insert.

I have just installed a P38 and have had the same issues. I found that the duravent t was leaking in just about every weld/joint that could leak. It was a really small amount i mean i could barely see the smoke but it was there. I sealed it up with RTV and i do not have the problem any more.

Are we talking like Pin size holes. I checked my pipe seal, and on the Accentra Insert Its kinda hard to see so I did a lot by feel. If I missed a bit that small would I still get a leak.

Could you see your leaks?

Yes.... i had to shut off the lights and get real close..... i also used my nose to find them. Look real hard if you can smell smoke its leaking.
