Finally got the new stove in and burning. Isle Royale in porcelain mahogany finish and a 6" flex stainless with insulation from Rockford. Only major hurdle was replacing the wood mantle with a new stone mantle due to clearance restrictions. Anyway thanks for all the advice, I think we made a good choice. Here's a pic of the finished product.

That is a great looking installation! You just can't beat the classic beauty of a cast iron.
 
Very nice. The "dear" on the left feels alot better now that the temp is up!
 
Looks great. I like that look so much better than a fireplace insert. Plenty of room for
top-loading or are you front-loading? Also, beware of popping, flying embers. I've got a couple
of burn marks in my carpet with about the same clearance.

Thanks for all the replies. Right now I am just kind of experimenting with both the top load and front load to see which works best. I have some real nice secondary burn going right now. How hot do you run your stove before you dampen it down to get the secondary burn.
 
On my Endeavor (plate steel), I can usually shut the bypass damper around 300F-400F and have secondaries right away. Then I adjust the primary air over the next 10-20 minutes to maintain a cruising temp of 600F-650F.

From a cold start, I run the start-up air for 15-20 minutes or until the fire is actively engaged (above 400). I start backing
off the primary air between 500-600 depending on how much heat I need. Every setup is different, but my Isle Royale
has a sweet spot around 80% primary damper closed for best secondary burn. These are stove-top temperatures. My
thermometer sits towards the front of the griddle and just off to the left of center. During the shoulder season, I give
it more primary air; the draft isn't as strong. This also all depends on having dry, well-seasoned wood. Enjoy: you've got
a great heater. When it gets cold out in mid-winter, the Isle Royale will cruise for hours and hours between 500-700.
