It’s that time… probably started my last fire for the year.

Started a fire last night with temps at 46º and dropping. It was 42 this morning and the fire got a reload. I may let it limp on coals. Outside may get up to 52º today, but the nights will remain cold through Friday. Then it looks like things will start warming up.

Lots of burn season left up in the hills here. At least another month, maybe two. Sure, there will be some warm days sprinkled in there between the rainy cold days but there is no shame in burning wood for heat whenever it's needed.

So how did you woodstacks hold out? I've been burning aggressively in both the house and the shop. Not holding back. I'm still about a cord under what was allotted for this burn season so I went through 4.5 cords so far.
All that was left of the 3 cords in the woodshed and I’m done burning for the year. I’d say I had the perfect amount. Finished refilling that side of the shed with 2 year seasoned wood which will sit for a year and half at least while the other side gets used for next season.

I have burned somewhere in the 3.5 cord range, which is less than normal. I am always working on updating and air sealing our house, the results of that are starting to show.

My last fire was the night of the 27th and now I am just running the geothermal system. I could burn again this weekend and next week, and I might if I want to make some biochar, but I have plenty of that already and also a bunch of net metering solar PV credits to use up before they reset me in early May and pay me a pittance for my overage.

It ain't over yet, still have wood on the porch that I don't want to haul back to the pile and they are predicting freezing temps in a couple of days. Been in the 80's the last few days.

We might burn an ambient fire on a couple more days, but I don't expect any long burns or full load fires until fall now. Of course, nature can always throw us a curve ball.

We will be having a fire tonight. It’s gloomy and 45 for the next couple days. Some wood heat will help warm the bones up a little. 😎

Yeah, Im not done yet either. In the upper 30s and 20s at night. Last night it got down to 19.....calling for more rain than sun, cloudy....blah. Thats life in PA, gotta love it. Im burning right now too. I looked out the window, and theres a big bright thing in the sky....we dont get sun much here.

I thought I was done but I was wrong. White pine yesterday and today. Hopefully todays it!

20-30's nights, been in the teens a couple times Mid 30's to sometimes 50 days , rain and snow in forecast into weekend . so still burning but not 24/7. Got a 10ft long by 7ft high rack in basement yet, plus a 1/2 cord or so stashed in the sea can. that will carry till the end of May.

Woke up to 26 degrees- chilly. Breezy today, they say 40ish, but was just out, still breezy and cold. Sun is pretty and bright, just no heat- yet. Stay warm all, I know its coming. I'll be watching the Masters later this week, it'll be warm there hopefully.

My driest wood is buried behind some slightly wetter wood, I don't think I'll be digging through the stacks at this point in the year. I have enough super dry handy for one more fire... not today... But I foresee one more fire on a rainy weekend day.
I have never had so much wood stacked, I think I'm getting close to 9 cord and I see 2 more close dead Douglas Fir to drop and process.

I loaded my garage rack almost 2 weeks ago, usually during mid winter the rack will hold about 5-6 days worth of wood, its weird because after I loaded it, the temps came down to more early spring, just finished throwing in the last few pieces from the rack, I'll just bring in wood from the shed as needed from this point forward, no need to be really stocked up, we've entered the day by day territory when it comes to burning.

It was 40º at 7am this morning. I contemplated starting a fire, but it's sunny and will be around 60º this afternoon so I decided to let the heatpump and sun warm the house. I may burn a chill chaser tonight. Clear days means there's no nightime cloud cover to retain daytime warming.

First night since oct i didn't have a fire, was 44°f when I went to bed and 33 when I got up.let the heat pump earn it's keep.

Been running our renewable, bio-fueled appliance (Morso 7110) the past several days. I thought we were done with it for the season.

We've still been burning here with the exception of a few warm days back in March. Then we had a surprise snow storm yesterday. Supposed to finally get into the 60s and low 70s later this week.
