We recently purchased a house with a Jotul #8 (UL 737 NBK RPT 02.01.83 printed on the read label). It appears to have been well maintained - no rust, no cracks, replaced gaskets, etc, inspectors gave it a thumbs up. It is a striking red woodstove and burns a great fire. We have been using it about 6 weeks without a problem. However, last night we could not close the draft wheel. It stuck about halfway shut so I wiggled it thinking there was some ash stuck in it but that only left it mores stuck and wide open. We were able to bang it closed about halfway so we were comfortable letting the wood in the stove burn. It was cool as of this morning but still stuck. I found the manual but it didn't include troubleshooting.
Any advice on how to get it unstuck and prevent it from happening in the future?
Any other thoughts we should know about this stove?
Also, the chimney attaches to the top. Does anybody know of a "kettle" that can be used on the top to provide some moisture to the house? A standard one doesn't fit around the chimney.
