Jotul Oslo Price 2013

Hi guys, I hope this isn't too banal of a question for the site. If so, please ignore it. I got a quote for a new Jotul Oslo from my local store. The guy is very fair in dealing with you on most things and stands by his advice, etc. and has been in business a long time. I just wanted to run by his price quote for the Jotul Oslo to see if it is reasonable. Does anyone have access to the MSRP prices?

He said the blue black enamel oslo is on sale for $2639 and the black paint oslo with clean face (CF) is on sale for $2269. Do these prices seem reasonable for this time of year, Hudson Valley, NY, etc.? I just wanted to see if this is a reasonable ballpark.

If you are willing to cross that big river, check out Fireside Warmth in Kingston. I just bought and had them install an Oslo BBE and couldn't be happier. I paid $2.669 on sale.

when I priced the blue black enamel here in september I think I got a quote around $3100, though I honestly can't remember if I included the cook top and screen in that. I paid around $2200 for my regular black oslo with the regular design on the glass. My install was "free" but I needed a chimney so had to pay for that.

No, that was just the price w/o tax. The extras were the outside air kit and rear heatshield. They charge a flat $650 for the install.

Elle, I was just thinking about if I could cook on top of it. I guess that answers my question. is the cook top stainless steel? have you used that yet? I was thinking of putting a pot of water onto the top to humidify the house some. is that a dumb idea? I guess you must have paid for the install with the chimney work; that sounds pricey

I'm not sure if the cook top is stainless steel but it is steel. I have used it. It is interestingly the "coldest" part of the stove. I wrote to Jotul about this and they said that is because they put insulation right underneath it in order to make the burn more efficient. But...having said that, I cook on it so it gets plenty hot enough to fry some burgers or some eggs. I'm going to buy a dutch oven one of these days and make a roast on it or something. I'm sure it stays plenty hot enough once it gets going. I am a first time wood burner and I am finding the Jotul pretty easy to operate. When I have good wood in there I"ve gotten a good 8 hour burn where all I have to do is throw some splits on in the morning and they catch flame right away. I can't wait till I actually get good

I didn't get a nice looking kettle or steamer for the top yet so I throw an old pot on there and keep it filled with water all the time. I think the humidity adds to the "warmth" of the heat and besides that my meal worms like it, lol.

Sounds like a good price you got. I think my 400 castine blue black enamel was around 2300.00 plus tax from a real nice Amish stove shop.
I'll buy from the small family shop even if it's a little more. The castine is smaller so yep you got a good price.
