How do you know if the f600/f500 has a catalyst in it? Im looking at a used stove for sale but its 10-15 years old and he doesn't know if it has a cat in it or not, anyway to tell? anybody know what year they stopped using them?

The predecessor to the F600, the F12 had a catalyst. Look for a foot pedal operated top loader on the lower right of the stove. The F500 hasn't had a cat option afaik.

If it has a bypass damper then it likely has a cat. Also the firebox will look smaller than you would think it should be if there is a cat chamber hidden behind a plate.

If it's really an F600, then I don't think it will have a cat. The Jotul cat model looked similar, but was called the Firelight 12. I believe the label on the back of the firelight 12 clearly stated that it had a cat.
