3rd times a charm? I’m considering cutting my losses and returning these and just going with an oem.

I know, same here. I always liked the idea of having a condar because of the estimated temp readings. Now I have had 2 and they are telling me my stove should be a molten puddle on the floor. I don’t want to talk down a well known company but cmon…

This is how it’s currently reading with a 4th season cat (so not hyperactive), stat set at 2:30 position. 🤦🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦

Well after going through 2 gauges from condar those are being returned for a refund and I’m back to an oem bk. One thing I noted with the new bk was the hole in the deck of the stove was larger than the brass bushing on the bottom of the oem gauge and if just set down in the hole the coil spring would be in contact with the stove top, I had to grab a small fender washer out of my parts bin that just slid over the rod and sat on the bushing to fix that small issue. The condar came with one already attached.

One other thing I noticed on the bk gauge is the brass bushing the coil spring is attached to freely spins on the shaft. I assume that’s by design and nothing needs to be done further? Makes it easy to zero out the gauge as long as it does not lose accuracy due to its free spinning nature.

Wanted to pop in and say that I've had a similar experience as @Dieselhead re: the Condar cat therms. I've had two that lost their zero fairly quickly and broke pretty easily (coil started to spin freely around the probe after trying to adjust).

Where are folks getting the OEM cat probe thermometer?

Our local hardware store is a BK dealer so I would order one from them. Any BK retailer should be able to get one.

Not sure what you did to them, but the one I have has been in the stove for two years now and has no issues.

I finally came to the conclusion that it was the spot-weld (that holds the end of the spring) breaking. I now pull it out (in keeping with the title of the thread ) on the rare occasions the temp gets up to 1800+ and haven't had a failure since.
