Came across an ad for this in Adirondck Life. Any forum members familiar with this thing? At $320 I'm thinking way over priced. I have no interest in buying it, just wondering. From watching the demo video, doesn't appear to do any better on a birch round than my $25 8lb maul from Ace Hardware.

It's a fine tool....if I had a bunch of extra cash, I would add one to my collection. I used one at a friends house and it does a fine job. However, you are correct that it doesn't do a $200 better job than the Maul I am using now. It is just something to have that is different.

General consensus: Demo shows splitting of wood that would split from the air currents if you missed the round with your maul. If Leveraxe saw a round of Sweet Gum or American Elm, it would grow legs and run away. A 5 ton electric splitter would be a far better use of $300.

FYI, there's also a "Leveraxe 2" model.

If I ever get a lifetime supply of short European birch rounds and just have too much money to my name, I'd consider one.
