Little Splitting (pic heavy)

Just managed to break the back of all the rounds i got from one of the neighbors.

I first thought i was looking at ~ 20 cubic meters (5.5 cords) just got the tape out and it looks like i underestimated the total the main stack measures 4.5 Meters x 6 meters x 1.5 meters.

I think i am looking at 3 years.

thanks guys - nothing like you guys but i think its about 11 - 12 cords all done by hand except the last cord when my neighbor hired a log splitter and he let me borrow it for a few hours.

i was quite impressed with the log splitter but i was more tired from that due to all the lifting and trying to get as much done in the few hours. It means i wont be buying one anytime soon as long as the back holds out.

I have got a bone to pick with you bogydave - i tried to stack one of my rows like yours nice and straight and when i had finished it was like yours - but due to the nature of my wood splits not being uniform like yours when i came back the next day the top had started to lean forwards, i normally lean my rows backwards. i quickly made another row in front of that one to hold it up and then another in front of that and another.... i think i have 5 rows in front and its still leaning. i'm running out of room for any more rows i think its going to collapse and its all Dave's fault. so when you coming over to re-stack it for me Bogeydave?

My wife helped on the one stack that's real straight.

I too worry about them falling, especially with the earth quakes we get,
So I tie the rows together with a long stick thru both rows ,about a meter up, every 2 meters or so.
Frozen ground here helps too

That's easy Auzzie. You need to slowly start drinking more beer when stacking. After the saw is put away, of course. When Dave begins his stacking he begins his drinking. So as Dave begins to lean to one side or the other he starts to compensate a little. Then as the day goes on it all works out in the end. Nice straight rows.

Oh. Your rows look good as well. Nice work man. If leaning now, add a few more beers in when stacking next time.

Not picky at all - but the splitter only goes horizontal it did have a lifting table but it meant i would have to move the wood further.... the main problem was me trying to get rid of all the wood i couldn't split with the fiskars done in a couple of hours. if i owned a splitter i would set up differently.

I hate to admit it but i actually enjoy splitting with the Fiskars my only problem was when i started collecting wood i would take anything including the 'impossible' to split stuff. I am more selective now almost a wood snob the thought of being 3 years in front (thats all down to this site by the way) allows the chance for me to look at the wood first to see if its splittable.

I have 2 Fiskars a 25 and 27. I bought them both from Amazon (USA) they were delivered to Auz and they were still half the price i can buy them locally.

Nicely done Auzzie! I too like splitting w/my X27 and although I have a hydraulic splitter, I usually save a cord or two of rounds just so I can swing it. Again, great work and nice stacks.

Australia has a little bit of everything. So far I still hand split everything, but I am a Social Hoarder, Wood--a-Holic by the end of the year.

And when they have winter, we have summer. I'll not forget the time during a conference call one of the guys was from Australia. He was somewhere up high and had to go outdoors in order to have a phone connection. You could hear the wind blowing and he said it was snowing like crazy. He was finally told to hang up and go indoors. lol That was in the month of May.

Yes its pretty much the other way round to you guys. We are just coming into Summer (December to March.) it doesn't get as cold here with only a few nights getting below freezing.

Where we live we are quite high up and i think we will be burning for at least 3 months 24/7. this is what the fauna looks like around here.
