Hi found this old wood stove don’t know much about it , looks like there is supposed firebrick underneath the stones on the top? I have one piece of fire brick . I started a fire in it outside and it was smoking out of the top of the stove where the soapstones are. Any help would be very much appreciated Thank you !!!

The bypass might have been closed? It will need some 6" pipe stuck in the flue outlet to provide a semblance of draft.

There is a baffle for the stove that appears be missing. I don't think it is sold anymore. If so, it might need to be fabricated. Here is a link to the manual and parts list.
