My buddy called me a few mins ago talking about the same thing. flooding, drouts, eathquakes and tornadoes have all been front page news this spring. I'll take the cold and snow anyday compared to all of that.

My wife lit a fire last night just to take the chill off. Just burned some junk wood and then let it go out. It actually seems good to not have to think about having wood ready to burn. But we do know that we are not done burning yet for this season. Not until June.

Havent burned in 1 wk. 7 day forecast not going below 47... I'm shuttin it down on Sunday. Turning the wood porch and closing it in to become "Changes in latitudes". The sound of wheelbarrows, mauls, and hatchets, will be replaced by blenders, bottle-caps, and pop-tops. Boy do I love gettin that crap away from me for a few months.

Now we begin the talk of burning pine in chiminea...Is it ok? Should I waste my red oak on this bon fire, that i am having so much fun at.... PEOPLE, we have burned valiantly. NOW, It is our summer! To relax our sharp instruments and chainsaws, our cherry pickers and front end loaders, our ladders and bow saws. For the next three months: we socialize with others, we dont talk about wood unless some one is smoking an expensive and tasty piece of meat. This year we socialize, take the flannel and Red wings off and meet the masses. Our meeting must be at Craigs summer compound, I have dibs on the gardeners house or the carriage house.

Craig: My drinking impaired, brilliant, stream-of-consciousness commentary, was very pertinent. You need to really have a "hearth fest" and hire the Ravers to play plus a few other local bands in our realm. At Craigs casa in RI! I would donate a keg to the cause and cook on the grill for a while. Let's do it!

Still burning . . . but also battling the black flies which drive me bonkers . . . but seeing them is a sign of warmer weather yet to come.

Went for a spell with no burning, but have gone back to evening fires daily and even an overnight fire a week or so ago. What's really nice is being able to clean up the chopping area mess (had to trim a lot of punky wood last winter), and being able to gather up the ready-to-burn wood that was hiding under the snow, and start accumulating piles for next year. This long cool spring is just one more sure-glad-I-have-a-woodstove reminder for me. I know in years past these long lingering cool springs have had me watching the fuel tank with annoyance and sometimes concern. This spring, I just keep pulling in the seasoned wood from stashes all over the property and smiling.

Not *quite* ready to kick back and socialize yet, Senator, but throw a shrimp on the barbie and enjoy one for me.

All done here. Took the week off to scrounge for wood, but fishing kinda got in the way. Great large mouth bass fishing all week.

We've got a couple of 60* days, upper 40s nights ahead so I may have to fire up one more time to keep our old dog warm.
And I've gotten used to wearing shorts again. Don't wanna wear long pants in the house anymore...only for cutting wood.

Another round of rain/snow for us this weekend with lows in the low/mid-30s again. Most folks here hate this weather, but I like it. We're finally getting our March/April storms. Up until now it's been over-dry and over-hot.

Mid 40's here and a sea breeze. Lit a few white cedar fence rails pieces this morning to chase the chill away. Nice wood for shoulder season. Great outside working weather. Time to cut and split my downed apple tree now.
