Did he really think he could lower that piece with just his body weight? I guess he found out the hard way. Hope he was able to walk away from that.

The guy at the top of the tree had quite an experience as well....;ex!!!

What was he trying to do?

From the link:
A dramatic video has emerged capturing the moment a lumberjack was violently catapulted towards a tree in Tarbes, France. The top of the tree falls to the ground which acts as a counterweight to a rope tied around the amateur lumberjack’s waist causing him to be flung forwards. According to the filmer the lumberjack’s arm was broken in the accident.

It looks like there's a climber in the tree blocking it down (I didn't see him the first time I watched it). The guy who was catapulted seems to be a groundie.

I've never met a guy in that business who didn't have a wild tale to tell that involved high-wire acrobatics, twirling chainsaws, speeding ropes, and subsequent hospital visits...

I bet they will think of different ways of doing things going forward! Ive never done that kind of work but I have done lots of ice climbing and I would have thought the guy on the ground would have been anchored somehow. Obviously he underestimated the weight that would pull him forward.

I guess I wont tie myself to anything heavier than I am that in any case can move in a direction Im not ready to move in. Man he FLEW

I believe the tree top was supposed to fall toward the camera with the ground guy pulling it. It decided otherwise. Rope went across some branches in the top of the tree as it fell and the ground guy was either caught in the rope or was stupidity tied to it and became a projectile.

That's what I was thinking. I'll also add that the groundie should not have been tied in, and the tree section was way too heavy for the rigging they used. The high winds probably didn't help either.

The guy at the top of the tree was double lucky,,,. Lucky the tree top didn't scrape him off the top of the tree when it fell over, and lucky the rope didn't snag him around the neck when it yanked him from his perch.

Better to let the cut trunk just fall on its own sometimes.......You tie yourself to anything, you become the anchor.... Or try to become the anchor....
