Anyone ever make your own pellets? Interested in buying a pto pellet mill make my own and maybe sell a few ton. I have a saw mill less than a mile from my house who sells a truck load of saw dust for cheap. Also I've seen u can use leaves.

This comes up now and then. It's generally considered to not be cost effective on the small scale.

There a few steps.

The raw material needs to go through a hammer mill and broken down.

The small bits at that point need to be screened and dried out to a specific moisture content.

It then needs to be put through a pellet mill. Depending on the material you may need to add a binder to ensure the material stays together.

Since you say you can get saw dust, the more difficult part is done.

I do think it's very interesting, and have thought about it myself. If I could get the parts cheap enough I would try it.

I could see experimenting with a saw dust + crushed leaf + pine needle mix. That would probably require a multi-fuel stove+pipe, though.

Before you sell I would say make and burn them yourself for a season The old eat your own dog food. That way you know if they're good or not.

we've talked about this before... the general feeling is it's not worth it. You'll need a pellet mill, a drier, a hammermill, bagging equipment and supplies, etc... lots of work and a fairly large investment even if you buy chi-com stuff.
