We have a flue that the chimney guy says can fit at most a 5” liner which seems like too small for most applications. The fireplace is shallow like 8” so likely was used for coal but hasn’t been used for anything in maybe 60 years or so.
However a fireplace store near me said they can install a gas (broken link removed) using a masonry conversion which will then just need a 4” flex pipe which will fit my flue. They did add that a masonry conversion is not a typical installation.
Im a complete newbie to all this, so trying to learn here. Can anyone share some more info on if this all sounds like a good solution?
Our use for this is mainly aesthetic since the home is heated fine already.
