So,,, the floor of my firebox is 5" lower than my hearth.. previous owner installed a surround with a raised front...my question is : can I get by (just this season) with placing regular bricks as a new floor, covered with 1-1/4" firebrick ontop of them as a "barrier". We will have a mason come and correct the issue in the summer when the Money Tree Blooms. Any help is appreciated
 
Why not use ALL fire bricks? 4 x 1.25 = 5...
You might need 16 of em...
Gonna cost $30+/-, & you can PROBABLY
use them in your insert...(if that's what you're
gonna install...
