That's quite a change. It looks great, but I have some safety concerns. I don't have the BIS1 installation manual. Is wood allowed that closed to the fireplace door? It is not on the modern BIS units. The modern units also have strict rules for the gravity vents which are supposed to be above the fireplace and with at least 6" clearance from combustibles, like wood framing and facia. The flue connection is also a point of concern.

Good question and total amateur here. I did manage to get the install manual for the BIS 1 model and it stated zero clearance on the sides and 19 inches to the mantle. Hope I did not misread that. Also there were a few risks with the install that I opted to move forward with. First is there is no fresh air intake. To do this I would have had to either drill through my foundation or run an intake pipe 5 feet up the chimney and out the masonry. Second is I could not get the 6 inch flu pipe all the way out to the top of my chimney cap. This was due to the way they designed the clay liner. It has about a 30 degree bend in it that the 6 inch pipe would not fit through. So this is a direct vent from 6 inch pipe out of the unit, to clay about half way up my chimney. Hopefully I dont regret those decisions. But so far so good. Been heating roughly 2000 square feet with this for the last couple days. Keeping a close eye on things as well.
