All I can say is WOW!
I live in North East Iowa. The River that flows through my town is called the Cedar River.
Records of river levels are not suppose to do this.
In Cedar Falls the record was smashed by 5.93 feet. Worse in Cedar Rapids it was smashed by 12.1 feet.
People lost it all, homes, property, a way of life.
I see it everyday when I return to my home to reclaim what is left. It is written on their faces.
What does this have to do with wood?
Hardly anything, but it is one of those nagging things left unanswered.
I was two years ahead of the game before June 10, 2008.
I had 6 cords of mixed hardwood including:
Locust
Hickory
Red Oak
Oak
Before the flood hit I had taken some measures to protect my property including securing my wood.
It all failed.
My log wood shed survived with some wood intact. Yesterday I recovered three pickup loads of cut wood in the woods downstream of my house...why I have no idea considering I will most likely never return to my former home, let alone have a place to burn.
It must be human nature to reclaim what is ours.
To any other members effected by the Floods of 2008 my thoughts and prayers are with you.
