All I had in the stove was 5 year old huge white ash blocks, did a great job, when March hits I use what I call shoulder season wood, ash.
These splits were as heavy as oak. Still burning 3o pm from 9pm last night.

Folks get confused with BTU content. It is a average value. Trees that grow in old forest with a tight canopy are going to grow slowly with tighter grow rings than a tree planted in good soil after a clear cut. The tighter the rings, the denser the wood. Looks like your ash must have been on the high end.
