I just picked up a Morso 2B Classic off Craigslist. I'd like to install it in my entryway, and am trying to find the manufacturer's recommended clearances to combustibles. I have two questions I'd appreciate some help with.

1) I found a 2B Classic manual, which gives me clearances, but there have been many versions of the 2B Classic over the years and I don't know if my model matches the manual. You can see in the photo that mine doesn't have a glass door or an ash pan door, so I think it's an older one. Advice?

2) If it's the right manual, the clearances it lists seem pretty tight. Which is good, since I have a small space. But I want to make sure I'm reading this right. It lists to unit as 27", and back wall to unit as 7". Many online references say you can reduce clearances by a factor of three if you install a sheet metal heat shield, which would make the side clearance 9", and the back wall clearance 2.5". Is that right?

Thanks in advance!

I think the original like this one may be an unlisted stove. The modern manual does not apply. If there is no UL or OMNI label on the rear then the clearances are 36" in all directions. This can be reduced to 12" with a properly ventilated wall shield.

Thanks. What does this mean for clearances to the ceiling?

A common minimum of a 7' ceiling is required I think.

The 2BO was my first stove, had two, still have one out in the shed. Probably me over firing but those sides will glow. Had to replace the baffle plate every year, would crack & warp.

Yes you were clearly abusing that poor thing. That baffle should last many years

Looks like 70s 2BO? Relevant pages from 1977 manual below if so. Go by new no UL stove clearances not ones listed in manual as begreen says. You must leave an inch or so of ash/sand/ refractory cement in the bottom of stove to protect the bottom from heat as manual says.
The backs crack easily when hit with logs. The baffles melt if overfired and replacements are very hard to find. It's easy to choke off to much and create smoke and creasote. The stove pipe is probably 120mm needs adapter https://www.woodmanspartsplus.com/170758/products/Morso-Pipe-Adapter-from-120mm-to-6-round.html

you happen to have a link to the whole manual?

Cool stove, you will definitely want to treat it kindly. With good dry wood it should burn fairly clean. I have the "new" 2b Classic with glass door and secondary air baffle. Your loading door has a lot of white discoloration around the "handle" which is usually indicative of getting a bit too hot, but otherwise it looks to be in good shape. I agree with everyone else that you should probably assume 36" clearance without using an NFPA approved ventilated heat shield to reduce clearances by 2/3.
