Mother load of hardwood pallets

I hit the mother load of pallet hard wood frames used to transport large slabs of granite. This wood is what I'll burn in my work shop vintage Benjamin stove. Had to hustle since my house cord wood is strictly dedicated to the home only. Been told during the summer there's enough wood to fill 6-8 industrial size dumpsters. I'll stock up during the summer, they'd be glad to lighten the piles. Right time right place with a chainsaw. Two days in the brisk cold with enough wood to heat the shop for the winter. I worked up a sweat laboring both days. Pieces are loaded with good size nuts, bolts, washers and nails.Next job is stacking it, skipped splitting and seasoned, that alone a year or two to good dried wood. This stuff is clean, dried and tough stuff to frame crate granite slabs weighing thousands of pounds. During the winter the company is burning it to heat their building. Yeah it's not pretty but it burns.

Its good wood to burn, what's your technique to breaking them down? I have quite a few pallets but I'm not crazy about pulling them apart, I've done a few and the wood burns nice.

I have a metal XX folding type of a support to hold logs or long length wood as I cut the pieces to length with the chainsaw. It takes me longer just to observe and locate nails, but this wood it's clear as day where the nails and bolts are. These A frame type of pallets are all built the same, not like regular 4x4 pallets of everyday use which are a PITA to cut up. Those are load with nails. But when times can be tough and the need for heat then knuckle down and cut them up. I'll have a ton of 6"-8" bolts I'll remove for use with other projects. Someone said burn the wood and take the hardware out of the ash. Nah I said, all burnt up. I'll remove with the air impact gun, throw them in a bucket and organize later.

That's awesome. I found a guy on CL in northern MA selling similar wood at $195/cord. I might start checking with stone shops in the summer for similar situations...if they're throwing out the wood...

This wood is tough stuff and it's a heavy dried hardwood. Been burning some of it. Burns long and hot. Real tough to get lit and going but once it does it's a clean burn. The nails are very obvious to see and avoid unlike a regular ole pallets built here in the states. This wood has Brazil ink stamped all over it. I'm finding mixed wood that would be great for scroll saw Intarsia projects or a couple for joiner biscuits and glue for a few other projects in the wood shop,
