My Hearth Install -- Take a Look!

Hello all, since last fall I've been asking questions about woodstoves. Well, we bought an Englander 30 a month ago and I finally finished the hearth install. I stuck with the manufacturer's minimum clearances plus one inch. I also put up wall shields for good measure. The hearth is constructed of 2x6's 12" OC trimmed in oak. The hearth pad is 3/4" plywood with 2 layers of Micore and a layer of Wonderboard cement board, then topped with porcelain tile. Overall the R-value ended up at about 2.3, exceeding the manufacturers 1.5 requirement.

I'm installing the pipe now, I have to build a chase through the 2nd floor. Anywho....check it out!

nice, i like the wood thats black so you can still see the grain. and the door hinged on the left is nice as well, tile looks great and everything compliments each part. great job, i really like raised hearth setups. pete

It's just a dang steel plate box with a fire in it (oh, and a rather elegantly designed and executed combustion airflow path). I have two stoves of the same basic description, although neither is an Englander, and they both get the job done very nicely, are simple to operate and maintain, and very nice to watch in operation. Maybe next time (if there is one) I'll get an Englander. Rick
