My fiance & I are building a cabin in northern MN. Radiant in-floor heating is our primary heat source, but we intend to install a wood burning fireplace as secondary heat, ambiance, and the novelty of baking/cooking on it. The cabin is ~1000 sq. ft., but is a lean-to style where the tall side is ~18' on the inside -- there is a lofted bonus space on one side.
We have narrowed our wood-burning cookstove options to the Kuma Applewood stove and the Nectre N350. Seems like the Applewood has a lot more flexibility/configurations for the types of cooking one can do. Kuma also seems like a solid company with great customer service & easy to get parts, if needed, since it's in the U.S. I like the aesthetic of the Nectre N350 a little better, but am concerned that it is an Australian-based company, so it may be more difficult to get parts. The baking below the firebox (vs. above the firebox in the Applewood) seems like it could be annoying to crouch down all the time.
What are some of your experiences with these stoves? Any strong preferences?
