hello i just got done installing my new quad 1200 bay insert and i want to thank all the posters here that helped by answered the questions i had it made it an easy install and we are now very happy with the decision
but i have a question about smoke alarm placement,when the blower comes on after start up my smoke detectors go off.we cant see or smell smoke and they are placed about 20 feet away in the hallway but the blower is pointed that direction. could it possibly be the sudden heat that is being pushed down the hallway that sets them off,after about 30 minutes we can put the batteries back in and they are fine
i do have another question about pellets made from paper products but that will have to wait

Welcome aboard! This place is great. People here are really helpful and have much more experience than me. I believe most common smoke detectors count particles suspended in the air...carbon, dust, anything really...I would recheck my exhaust connections just to be safe. High temp silicone was used on all the pipe joints of my CB1200 freestanding model. Better safe than sorry.

The first thing came to my mind was to ask, did you do the "burn-in" for the stove. That gives off smoke sometimes, but it usually also smells.

Interesting that you can put the batteries back in and nothing happens, so I guess it has to be start-up related. Are your "smoke detectors" also heat detectors?

Iknow that when I first started my 1200I there was smoke from the stove burning off the machine oil that was used to make the parts and to protect them from rust during the shipping process. After a couple of hours of operation at medium heat, the oil was all gone and I no longer had any smells. Difference is that I had my stove installed in the begining of January on a snowy day with the temp in the 20's so it ran steady for several hours.

My smoke alarm goes off when using my rotisseire, with no smoke smell or visible smoke. Drives me crazy.

Now Panhandler, you KNOW that the rotisserie wasn't made to burn pellets....btw, how do you get those little things on the tines????

My smoke detector is placed in the opposite corner of my room, directly in line with the blower. I have never had an issue with it going off at any time during the burn cycle (maybe I should check the batteries... %-P ). During my burn in time I left the windows open, maybe this is the difference. Mine is not a heat detector, if yours is, this might be the issue too, try moving it out of the path of the blower.

Aw, shucks, Mac, you know how lame we all are down here in WV. What else are we supposed to do with all these pellets with the weather in the 60's? A little possum fat makes 'em stick real good to them tines. The weird part is the pellet stove never sets it of.

i moved the detectors out of the path of the blower i put one in the bedroom (we never close the bedroom door)and one in the dining room and started the insert and no alarms yet i have also checked the CO detector as mine has a resettable memory and it is at zero so i am thinking ive got this thing whipped. and yes the start up was very smelly just getting the oils burnt off.thanks again for all of the help

OH! BTW, on this forum, we love seeing pics of new stove installs, especially ones showing it burning. As we say here, "no pics means that it really didn't happen!" :lol: (ps....post it in a new thread so we're sure to see it)
